Calm Seas Yoga and Wellness is so much more than a name. It reflects a philosophy that has emerged from my own journey.
For much of my life, I have been comfortable navigating change and uncertainty. However, after a long career in the U.S. Navy, retirement brought a challenging period of transition. A role that had provided purpose, community, and a clear sense of direction was suddenly behind me. Like a ship without a navigation chart, I found myself asking what the next course of my life would look like.
The years that followed brought plenty of change, challenge, and, at times, some very choppy seas. Through it all, yoga remained a constant. What had begun more than 20 years earlier as a way for me to manage stress during a difficult period of graduate school had become something much deeper.
Yoga gave me a place to anchor myself in the present.
It let me step away from everything happening around me, reconnect with my breath and body, and simply be where I was. It reminded me that I did not have to have every part of my journey figured out before taking the next step.
As I began charting a new course for my life, I decided to deepen my understanding of the practice through yoga teacher training. Completing my 200-hour training in 2026 gave me an opportunity to grow my own practice and increase my understanding of yoga while becoming a more thoughtful and intentional teacher. The more I learned, the more I came to appreciate the ways yoga can support us through life's changing conditions, and how my own continued practice shapes the way I teach.
That experience ultimately led to Calm Seas Yoga and Wellness.
To me, calm seas does not mean a life without challenges or uncertainty. We cannot control everything that happens around us, and I don't believe yoga can, or should, promise us a life without storms. What yoga can offer is something more enduring: tools for finding our anchor, establishing stability, and responding to whatever comes with greater steadiness, awareness, and grace.
That is what I hope to offer through Calm Seas: an opportunity to move intentionally, build strength and stability, reconnect with yourself, and cultivate a little more calm along the way.
Cultivating calm seas from the inside out.
That is the philosophy behind Calm Seas Yoga and Wellness.
